Weddings or other events at the Turkey Point Lighthouse

The Turkey Point Lighthouse is part of the Elk Neck State Park and the Maryland Park service is responsible for approving and coordinating events around the lighthouse. While the view of the Elk River and Chesapeake Bay is the perfect backdrop for a wedding there are some restrictions that you should consider before contacting the Park Service. The Park Service has not been willing to make exceptions to the below policies.

  • There is no electricity or running water.
  • There are no bathroom facilities, just a porta-potty.
  • There is no place for people to change cloths.
  • No vehicles except for lighthouse volunteers can drive to the lighthouse.
  • Everyone has to walk .8 tenths of a mile to and from the lighthouse.
  • Parking is very limited and cannot be reserved.
  • The lighthouse and park land around the lighthouse cannot be reserved, from dawn to dusk it is available        to the general public.

The gift shop is open from 10AM to 2PM. There is no charge to view the Chesapeake Bay from our lantern room. The staircase in the lighthouse is open to climbers who can reach the metal handrail. Donations are gratefully accepted.
